A seasoned development leader and co-founder of the Upajeevan Sangathan Foundation, he brings decades of cross-sector experience to his role as Managing Director of IDFC Foundation and Director-in-Charge of IDECK LIMITED. His work is defined by a deep-rooted passion for livelihood development, capacity building, and strategic advisory — with a consistent focus on creating meaningful, lasting impact for underserved communities.
His career spans development finance, social infrastructure, and institutional leadership at the highest levels. As Director of ESAF Financial Holdings, formerly Esaf Microfinance and Investments Limited — the holding company of ESAF Small Finance Bank — he helped expand financial inclusion for marginalised populations. His hands-on engagement with the State Poverty Eradication Mission in Kerala stands as a testament to his commitment to evidence-based, ground-level development practice.
As Publisher of Kudumbashree Magazine, he shaped the narrative around one of India’s most celebrated community development programmes during its formative years. As Managing Director of Dharana Infrastructure Projects Private Limited, New Delhi, he led the deployment of drinking water purification solutions for vulnerable communities, bridging critical gaps in public infrastructure. He served as a Member of the Governing Council at the Social Economic Unit Foundation (SEUF), contributing to strategic initiatives across water, environmental sanitation, and livelihood — in partnership with leading global institutions including the World Bank, UNICEF, and the Asian Development Bank.
DR. V. SATHYANARAYANA, PhD., Director (Non-Executive), I-CAP Trust
Dr. Sathyanarayana has done his Post Doctorate study in Economics from the Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bangalore and a Doctorate in Law from the prestigious National Law School of India University, Bangalore. He has worked for the Central Government and State Government for nearly 19 years and is familiar with public policy making, legislative business and regulatory frameworks. Later he worked with iDeCK for nearly 20 years in the legal, corporate and HR wings. He has extensive project experience in the urban sector, specially water and sanitation projects, sanitary landfills, commercial properties etc. He has contributed to Policy and Regulatory matters in the transportation sector. He is familiar with bid process management in highway projects, airports, ports and rail infrastructure across India. Among Sathya’s major achievements are: being a Master Trainer in the National PPP Capacity Building Program; Key Resource Person at the Administrative Training Institute at Mysore, to train officers in the Government of Karnataka; At the IDFC Foundation, he has trained officers of Ministry of Finance, Government of Nigeria, the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission at Lagos, Government of India Ministries and State Government departments.
